Privacy

Last updated 27 October 2026. The short version: your music never leaves your machine and you never need an account to mix. If you choose to make a DJ profile, we keep what you put on it. Anonymous usage analytics run only if you say yes.

What stays on your machine

browserdj is a web page that does all of its work inside your browser. The things it keeps are stored by your browser, for this site only, on your own device. We cannot see them.

WhatWhereWhy
Your music filesNever stored by us; read straight from your folder when you load a trackPlayback and analysis happen in the browser tab
Track analysis (BPM, beat grid, key, loudness, tags)Your browser's IndexedDBSo each track is analysed once
A handle to the folder you choseYour browser's IndexedDB (Chrome and Edge only)So the library reopens without asking again
Hot cues, loops, the main cue, per trackYour browser's local storageSo they come back when you load the track again
Settings: mixer profile, crossfader assigns, BPM range, phones mode, web sources switchLocal storageSo the console opens the way you left it
MIDI and controller mappingsLocal storageSo your controller works next time
Your analytics choice (allowed or declined)Local storageSo we only ask once
Your sign-in, if you have a profileLocal storageSo you stay signed in on this browser until you sign out
The page, fonts and iconsYour browser's cache, via a service workerSo it works offline

The Backup button on the decks exports all of the above except the file handle and the analysis cache to a file you keep; Restore reads it back. Clearing your browser's site data removes everything in the table.

What can leave your machine

Usage analytics, only if you allow them. The first time you visit, the site asks whether you will allow anonymous usage analytics (Google Analytics 4). Until you choose Allow, nothing from Google is loaded and nothing is sent. If you allow it, Google Analytics records page views and a small number of named events: that a track was loaded, that sync was switched on, which mixer profile is in use, that a recording was saved, that a controller was connected, the rough size of your library (a bucket such as 51 to 200), and the standard browser, device and country information Google collects. It never receives file names, titles, cue points or audio. Google signals and advertising features are switched off. You can change your choice at any time from the How it works panel on the decks, and declining takes nothing away.

YouTube, only if you switch it on. The decks can play a YouTube video through YouTube's own embedded player. This is off by default. When you switch it on and load a video, YouTube's player loads from YouTube and Google's usual terms and privacy policy apply to it. Tab capture, which routes another browser tab's sound into the mixer, is something you start and stop yourself and never leaves your computer.

The launch updates list. If you give us your email address on the home page, we keep the address to send occasional news about releases and controller presets, and nothing else. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete the address at any time.

Your DJ profile, only if you make one. Signing in is optional and only for a profile. If you sign in, we keep your email address (to send sign-in links, never marketing unless you join the updates list), and whatever you put on your profile: your DJ name, address on browserdj, bio, location, genres, links, the mix links and tracklists you add, your Mixcloud username if you follow it, your gear and any adverts you link, blog posts, the DJs you follow and who follows you, and your decks set-up if you save it. Everything on a profile except your email address is public, because that is what a profile is for. A saved decks set-up holds your mixer, crossfader, phones and controller settings; your hot cues and anything about your music library stay on your computer. Profiles are stored with Supabase, our database provider, in London. You can change or delete any of it in your profile settings, and Delete my account removes the lot.

Mix players and feeds. A profile shows mixes in SoundCloud's, Mixcloud's or YouTube's own player, which loads from that site only when you press Play, and their terms and privacy policies then apply. A profile that follows a Mixcloud account asks Mixcloud for its list of uploads when you open it.

Nothing else. No advertising and no selling of data. Mixing needs no account and makes no requests of its own. The fonts are served with the page, not from a font service.

Your rights

If you have a profile, you can see, change and delete everything on it yourself in your profile settings. Otherwise browserdj holds nothing about you beyond an email address you chose to give us. For that, or any question, write to hello@browserdj.net. Google's handling of analytics data is described in Google's privacy policy; browserdj is operated from the United Kingdom.
